             If
at first you don't succeed...

            I'm
no stranger to going back and fixing, even overhauling an older piece
of art but I think this is the first time it's happened in such a short
time amount of time.  : O

I was in the mood to doodle Kaori so I thought I'd shake things up and
tried drawing her in a sort of Disney style...with mehhhhhhhh results.
I tried to keep things simple but I think I just got lazy.
Things weren't lining up, the colors were bland, her proportions
were whack and her face was just plain weird.  Like with a lot of
my art I thought I was just being too hard on myself as I am most of
the time right after finishing a piece and decided to leave it be and
just fix things the next time I draw her.

That wasn't to be.

It kept bugging me since stuff like Kaori's base pose, hair and
expression worked.  So two days later I completely overhauled the
piece.  Usually when I go back to "fix" something I'll redraw the
eyes or tweak the colors.  But here I don't think there was a
single piece I didn't at least adjust.  I fleshed out the sketch
for like an hour or two, so much that I probably shoulda just drawn her
all over again.  XD  I re-inked her from scratched and ditto
for the colors.  Instead of going for a cel-shaded look I threw in
a lot more blends.  Obviously me trying to go all Disney with
Kaori wasn't working so I threw that idea out the window and went with
my gut (it sounds cliché but hey it works!)

The results are night and day I think.  Looking back I don't think
my first pass is as horrible as I made it out to be, but I'm glad it
worked out the way it did since it gave me the kick in the pants to
re-do the whole thing and I'm super happy with the results.  : D

So remember, kids.  Keep climbing that mountain!!!
